Well, Today, Death finally got his hands on an Andretti, after who knows how many attempts to claim them in race cars. John succumbed to the colon cancer he'd been fighting since 2017.
While not as famous as his Uncle and Cousin, he probably should have been. John ran in EVERYTHING and successfully at that. Honestly the only thing he didn't race in was Formula 1. John raced USAC, Sports Cars, NASCAR, IndyCars, NHRA Top Fuel......and he WON in ALL of them.
He was the 1988 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year, He raced and won in 2 of the most iconic IMSA GTP cars, the BMW March, and the Miller High Life 962, winning the Rolex 24 in the Porsche. His only IndyCar win came in the 1991 Surfers Paradise round. He won 2 Winston Cup races, one in the iconic #43 STP car for Petty Enterprises, He had a successful Top Fuel campaign in 1993. More importantly, every year during the Brickyard 400 week, John hosted the Race for Riley in New Castle Indiana, to raise money for Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.
John was 56.

Knew he was ill, but didn't realize how dire the situation was. Very sad indeed.
