Ah, happy days. Remembered that they used the "old roads" of the city when racing there so when the other guesses was wrong I was left with few other choices for a guess Shall we see if anyone knows what this one is then?

Autódromo Eduardo Copello in Argentina? Although that's anti-clockwise, and your photo isn't...

That's correct indeed, one of my favourite tracks in the virtual world and one that provides great racing on telly, the little bit I've watched races from South America. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potrero_de_los_Funes_CircuitThe picture is from the Turn 16-17 hairpins in 1978 (the first year the track was in use)

See if this one requires more time because of limited amount of scenery.
Bonus points if you can tell the reason for the odd seating position.

I have no idea of the track, but someone seems to have shoved two engines into that thing, the space is really tight to the point the driver had to go up at the expense of bending the roof to fit. Probably to leave room for the transmission.

Only one engine, but the usual Renault engine was swapped for a centrally mounted 1800 Ford BDA. A Variomatic transmission from an F3 car which was placed underneath the driver, which explains the odd driving position. It had 4WD too, and was banned within a year. The next evolution, with the BDA in the usual location but still 4WD, was also outlawed after one year.

It sure doens't look like it from my experience of it, but is it a Paris-Dakar stage?
