For me my favourite series would be F1, F2, F5000 and Indycar. If I had choose one it would have to be F1 (in the 70s or 80s). Favourite season would be F1 1979, F2 1978 ,F5000 1974 & Indycar 1993.

So many but if I had to pick in the main categories of motorsport:
USAC champcars 1973 or 74 but also CART in the 90s so many good ones. Grand National Nascar 1970 TransAm 1970 Formula 1, tough call but probably 1976 Group C seasons, 1990 was great with many different cars Sportscars, probably 1997-98 FIA GT even if it was mostly a Mercedes show but so many nice entries Single make BMW M1 procar

For me... tough call. Gotta agree with Alberto on the NASCAR Grand National 1970 Season, however. Add to that... Well, quite obviously, despite the two driver deaths and the political drama, the 1982 Formula One season. 1988 British Rallycross Championship comes to mind, too. 2000 DTM season anything else? oof....not sure.

F1 1989 One of the best seasons and would be a awesome recreation Senna v Prost with the right outcome.
F1-1982-1987
F1 1958
60s sports cars on scratch made tracks like Riverside 60s, Nassau,
( like in GPL latest updates)
Canam 66-67
Yearly Daytona 500 and Beach race 1959 Racing fin cars , simply a dream to race
Stockcars / Nascar late 50s early 60s mainly 1960 , to my opinion the best looking cars ever made in the USA
Pontiac Ventura/Bonneville, Oldsmobile Scenicoupe, Plymouth Fury , Ford Starliner, Ford T-Bird, Buick Electra's and Chevy Impala's
CART 1982-1985 ground effect monsters

Been watching through most of the German touring car scene of the 1990's lately. DTM 1990-1992 was epic, albeit very political. STW was awesome too for all it's lifetime.

For F1: 1975-1982 1989-1994 (especially 1989-1991) 2003 CART: 1987-2001 (especially 1991, 1993, 1994, 1997, 2001) WSC - all seasons, but especially the 1980-1992 ALMS 1999-2003 (so many great cars) CART will always be my favourite though.

For me there is a slightly smaller sample-size, since I'm on the younger side of sim-racing (I suppose, being born in the ninetees), but here goes:
Touring Cars: There are two sides to this, one is the Australian series, especially the Group A days of the 80's and the mid- to late-ninetees V8's which produced some stonking races and great title fights, as well as some very memorable Bathurst events. The other one is 90's BTCC. While the Gr. A days of the BTCC lends to some great driving in the virtual world, few things beats the titanic fights that occured in the 90's in the Super Tourers. It also helped that Richard Rydell, the swedish flowerist, was a part of the series back then.
F1: For me, F1 will always be at its best when the drivers at the top were named Schumacher, Häkkinen, Coulthard, Frentzen, Hill, Irvine etc. Those were the days I remember, with a fond memory at that.
CART: The years that Kenny Bräck was in there, turning heads and proving that Sweeds could also make it in America, although in different ways than what they themselves thought when they went over in the 1800's...
Few other races were ever broadcast on channels that I could watch and therefore few other series made an impression on me when I was younger. In later years I've found USCC to provide some decent action from time to time, but I can't say that I've been following it at all like I've followed and watched the afformentioned series.

1993 CART season, what a year with Nigel Mansell the current F1 world champion, Mario Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet (at Indy) all F1 world champions. Lots of other ex F1 drivers plus the best of the US drivers. A Penske and Lola manufacturer battle, the Rahal-Hogan RH-001 disaster, and Ford and Chevy engines along with Buick at Indy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_PPG_Indy_Car_World_SeriesI hope that we can get to race the 1993 season here at some point.

That was a good season. I went to Indy500 that year! I thought Mansell was going to win. He was getting some "boo's" in the crowd as he stretched the lead, but then they all cheered for the full course yellow like a bunch of idiots. lol Also went to Detroit CART race. I Think Danny Sullivan won? Really was a stacked field of drivers! Sent CART popularity threw the roof w/Mansell there. Bernie was plotting a take down for sure (...and the IRL was born)

1972 USAC series due to super unique car design 1990-1995 Indycar and F1 - good, clean looking cars with modern technology in use. Also due to first simracing experience (Papy Indycar Racing, MPS GP/GP2 series). F1 turbo era of mid 80's- the motorsport period with best of the best drivers behind the wheel and very powerful, demanding cars. Racing series not often covered in simracing - i.e. CanAm, F5000, Formula Atlantic, very rare Japaneese WC Series.

Basically the full range of international sportscar racing, starting immediately postwar, up to the introduction of the 2005 LMP rules. But if I had to pick a specific one, I'd choose, as apparent from my current avatar, 1989 SWC. Maybe a little bit boring with Sauber-Mercedes almost clearing the plate, winning every race but one, but it featured one of the biggest and colourful range of manufacturers and cars. Old Group A DTM 1989 F1. There is a bit of a pattern, but 1989 was the year the motorsport bug bit and infected me 1982 to 1993 Camel GT, especially GTO and GTU classes are underrepresented. Would love to contribute something

For insanity's sake 95/96 ITC. Most expensive, best sounding touring cars ever. Personal favourite is the Alfa 155.
Also...500cc 2 stroke motorcycles and of course all the MotoGP stuff.
