Back end got out from underneath me on lap 80, slight tap of the wall with the ass end, and the engine died. Oh well. Looking forward to USAC 1978 next year. Thank you everyone for a fun and exciting series.

My big apologies to Richard Wilks- I've lost the car when accelerating hard on worn tyres. Tried to stay away from your line but from what I've seen my left rear wheel hit your McLaren into the sidepod :/ It was 100% my fault, should've let you go instead of trying to rev the guts out of the V8 at the very end of the main stretch- you and Brian were clearly faster. It was rookie grade driving error. Again my apologies.

Grateful to have one more chance to drive these cars after mental health issues led me to flake out of a drive earlier in the season. After changing up meds a bit, I've had my head screwed on (mostly) straight this past month so thought it was time to come back and knock some rust off in preparation for a (hopeful) full 1978 season next year. Q: Managed to run at the lowest boost by mistake and get loose at the exit of 4 on my first timed lap, lucky to only be mid-pack. R: Recovered quickly to p6/7 at the start and pretty much spent the rest of the race in that neighborhood, picking up a position or two as others spun. Glad that, while I didn't have outright pace, I was able to keep consistent and mostly out of trouble to take home p4 in the end. Bring on 1978!

So I raced my 1972 T-car after crashing my 1974 Eagle in practice. Unfortunately I forgot to mention this to USAC officials.
I qualified the old thing in 3rd by going 3 tenths quicker than I'd done before. I have no idea where that lap came from, it just clicked.
That put me far more towards the front than usual. Being on Firestones, I opted for a 2-stop strategy and started with a lighter fuel load. During the race I noticed I was under fuel, the tyres were okay, so I could stretch it to lap 70 and forget the second stop. It worked really well, until I spun avoiding a wreck and bent it.
On lap 71, I came in for new tyres on the right only to save time. 10 laps on, my lefts turn yellow. So much for my strategy. I kept it in 5h place, cursing myself I could have been in 3rd without the spin. To complete the job, I spun again and dropped to 7th.
By lap 130, my tyres were dead and I reckoned my race was a lost cause. Then the yellow dropped, I gained places due to retirements, and went in for new tyres. From the back of the field, on just about enough fuel and new tyres, I set out to catch Dana in 4th. That became 3rd because of Brian's misfortune. With 2 laps to go, I turned up the boost and on the final lap I went for a inside dive in Turn 1. It worked and I finally achieved a decent finish in this series after 5th place at Indy.
It's been a good end to an up-and-down season for me, looking forward to the 1978 cars next year!

I am totally fine, no more than that, with P2. Qualifying too, anything top ten was alright. DJ was just too strong on his set to make the strategy work, even with the late yellow he still had enough left in his car. Sorry for the contact with Brian. I had to take a chance to get out of his dirty air disrupting my front end and get into clean space, but I washed up slightly too much spun him around into the barriers. Then again, I don't quite understand why we had to "race" each other as it wasn't for position. Not how I wanted to end the race&season, but it happened...

Very happy to have finished. I got away with just damaging the rear wing in the spin instead of tires/suspension.
Had a pretty good fight with Chacon early on.

Gutting end to a frustrating season. I will not remember the Kingfish fondly, no real character in this one as an Eagle clone. But beggeras can't be choosers, and after the very promising beginning of the season I wanted to follow the season through. Been a lot of DNF's, spins and no-shows, but still managed 3rd in the standing. Shouldn't complain about that!
Anyway, today was not very good. Had pace, but in a high risk/high reward early on I got squeezed and was out of contention. Lost further time when a lapped car lacked courtesy and chopped me and another car in turn 3 (first lesson when you're being lapped: don't do sudden change of lanes like that). Saved some points at least with a 10th place, but 5 laps off the pace. Frustrating since I had some speed today.
But has to take this opportunity to thank everyone for another stellar Indycar season, driving standards in all has gone way up this season and the competition has been great! See you all in 2021/1978!

I wouldn't go that far, I made a mistake myself too, not hitting my marks and going wider...

I wouldn't go that far, I made a mistake myself too, not hitting my marks and going wider... It's ok dude. More me than you. I learned during race it's fair to chop people up while being lapped regardless of circumstance. Oval crap I'm assuming... I didnt like doing that but did it anyway, left you a crack, and the correct outcome occurred. We ran in lockstep a large part of the race, you drove fast and brilliantly, also caught a couple breaks where I didnt Disappointingly, I lost my cool many laps earlier and in frustration, possibly cost you a clearer path to fight for the win. Absolutely my bad! see ya around

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who made this series possible in 2020. Alberto, David Sabre, the Richards and I have personally invested a lot of time in the 1973-74 USAC mod series, and it was great to see all that come to fruition in AMS. I think we've developed a great core of oval racing enthusiasts here, and that makes me really excited about the 1978 series. Hope everyone had as much fun as I did. See you all in 2021!
