Mainly, I need apologize to Grant, from bottom of my heart! I took care for everyone at start but I make a mistake to overtake you.
What a Race. I just drop my battle with Janik because I was running out of fuel, I started the last las with just 2 litters, but I noted that someone was stopping (ou running to slow) and I saved for a last rev at main straigth. One more point to Grove!

Didn't turn any laps here until a couple hours before the race and was able to eke out some decent pace from the Lola, despite the inferior engine.
Had a great start and settled into 10th, while Fernandez kept me honest from a distance until he dropped out (damn). I took care of the engine for the most part but of course it blows at a race I'm decently competitive at. I wouldn't have scored points but still disappointed for another DNF.

Fun race while it lasted, but that was only 43 laps, before my engine went to see his creators, but I probably have to blame myself. I missed a few shifts in the first 20 laps or so, hit the limiter at the start, exiting the pits and once or twice trying to get out of the gravel pit I unfortunately ran into on the second round of lappings, and ever so often bounced the revs to high in first and second gear when the turbochargers kicked in. That probably added up. Up until then, I had a bit of a slow start, but was able to pass the first Osella in lap 1 at the end of the backstraight, a while later Francicso in the second Osella, saw people getting into the gravel left and right, but I had to wait until the car came to me, which was at about 110 litres of fuel, then its balance was just right. When I went into the gravel pit in the first lefthander, Francisco was able to pass me back and open a 20 second lead over me until I was running again, but else from that unfortunate incident, I was lapping pretty steady and it was a rather incident-free race from my perspective, though traffic more often than not worked to my disadvantage. That work I put in all week paid off, I had a bit of input regarding the setup from Gabriele, gave me a few new insights, and most importantly, my eyesight was good again! About lap 30, I was close to Francisco again and tried to pass him, I was somewhat faster than him, but apparently, he hauled some more wings than I did and could always open the neccessary gap in the right corners. After 32 laps, I decided to pit and to try an undercut, but he was able to defend himself with his pitstop, so off came the gloves and after two attempts, I finally found a way past him, but he wouldn't give in so easily. But this time, I had the better share of traffic and could open up a gap. By then, I was already in 15th and trying to judge the gap to the next car, when a bang in my rear at the end of the backstraight sent me the message my day was over. To bad, there was some more in it, on a track that has only 3 corners I'm comfortable with. That last turn is one of the best pieces of tarmac around!
Well, I'll try to do better and finish in Mexico.

Well done to Wilks on taking the win and the championship!
As usual I couldn't get it together in qualifying and I added to that by not finding first gear at the start. 12th heading into turn 1, and I needed a win to get closer to Wilks if I was to have any chance of winning the title. This wasn't looking good.
I picked up places along the way and by lap 11 I was in the points. I needed more than that single point though, as it would be useless with the dropped scores. 40 laps on, I was still in that sixth place, but then a lot happened. I had saved enough fuel for a push and other people's misfortunes brought me up to fourth with two laps to go. With enough fuel left to complete two laps on full boost, I went after Anders and Tim. I caught Anders, but there wasn't enough left in the car take Tim's second place.
Now I'm equal second in the series with Gabriele, but the next race is Mexico and I've heard the Benetton likes that so I'll have a mountain to climb if I want to be the sole proprietor of that second place.

Had a great qualifying! Even improved my PB!!
But over eagerness got the better of me in the race...
I know when i'm faster than guy in front of me.. i start to overdrive the car...
And i ended up more than a few times in one of the many gravel traps...
Had some amazing battles.. my my overeagerness bit me in the end.. came into the first hairpin too fast.. back end stepped out and i didn't had room to correct it.. and back slammed into the armco... gone right rear, back wing and engine... but man was i glad that the car driving like i want! small oversteer in and mid-corner and neutral and a bit understeer when pushing out.

It was a race that I prepared reasonably well for it, I felt safe and confident in the car. I started cautiously, Jules and Ruben soon passed me and then Hackman. I was gradually getting up to speed and quickly approaching Hackman and he missed the T4 and in order not to hit him, I slipped into the mire, losing 54 precious seconds to get out of the car, temperatures in the red and the premature end almost there. Slowly, I recovered the engine temperature and managed to get back on track in 21st place. My pace quickly evolved to 1:27, clear track I climbed up to P17 and managed to overtake Remmen. Excited more than my age allows, a few laps in 1:26 and a sudden backslide and off I go again for the Dakar. There were another 42 seconds lost. I continued on P17 and a few more laps at a fast pace, already at 1:24, I make my pit stop on lap 36 (always hard tyres). Keeping a good pace, I again caught up with François and in dispute at T4 I was surprised by the premature braking and slightly hit the back of his car (of course, fair play paid on time). During the second half of the race, I went in pursuit of Mr. Saber but our pace was similar and so it was until the moment when I put a lap ahead on Mike Olsen, which during the race gave me a lot of scares as he disappeared constantly and came back, not knowing where he would appear. I believe that again in T4, I was very close to Olsen and in one of these reappearances Saber's car stopped on the track and I couldn't avoid the collision (Sorry David). At least the P10 and just 3 laps behind the leader was a fair price for so many situations I went through.

It was fun while it lasted. A couple of missed shifting at the beginning of race plus making an extra effort to overtake Hackman probably took it's price earlier than I'd expect to... My pace at slow part of circuit was much faster than that Williams but at the straights where it mattered I had no chance against that Honda.
I guess I can't blame myself for trying although deep down I should have been more realistic and kept it cool.

Since the practices I thought I was going to have a solitaire and short race with my Alfa "3 Little Ponies" Engine since its lack of power and incredible and unavoidable high temperature. But in the end I could have some fun fighting with Michael's Minardi, opening a gap in the turns and being hunted in the straights. Great duel, Michael. And the engine lasted much more than I expected, expiring after 44 laps, always being around 120ºC oil temp. Alfa Engine I hope to see you in Mexico, if I can get a car.

Q. Was happy with Q got a time 3 tenths off my Pb. Race. Got a really nice launch off the line passed both Janik and Ray before T1. Then a long great fun battle with Mr Thim, i felt i was abit quicker but not quick enough to pass . Didnt stop me from trying tho, but he drove really well and didnt put a foot wrong. Tried to undercut him but he didnt do a pitstop . The last 10 laps or so was intense i chased Thim down, manage to pass guess ur tyres were shot m8. Hille made a bobo and i found myself in second position. Which didnt last very long , both Hille and Juha had alot more fuel to spare. So i was a sitting duck down the straight but i take fourth any day in the week in this company. Man its so competetive and the pace is furious . Grats to Wilks for champ well desirved . Thanks to the team in the broadcast Cya at Mexico may i get further this time than i did in the 91 season

Thank you everybody! Like i said in the Broadcast, it was hard, but the car helped, and i just hope this has been a fun championship for all, i am mostly proud of the type of racing that we had, and how it captures what it was in the 1986 season, and even though the points make me champion, that doesnt matter at all if compared with having you all to race here, and have a good race and a good show

First off, my apologies to Coxon, getting out of the race like that really sucks with all the good intentions that entails. get out of the danger zone! great racetrack, layout and especially visually, what Martin has done is really great!
The Race itself , a super start ! but knowing not being able to compete with top 10 is very frustrating, and having to get out in lap 50 is even worse but with a busted backside after Chacon's kind kiss , very kind to wait for me from him but after that it was very difficult to keep the car on the track which resulted in a spin. Gabriele helped me a lot and man man what a blow to him on Sunday. what I find very unfortunate is that in the broadcast very biased for one side to lose the championship the way it went. I would like to congratulate Richard but the way is more Prost than the helmet he rides in see you all in Mexico!

The last 10 laps or so was intense i chased Thim down, manage to pass guess ur tyres were shot m8. Great scrap Anders! You where definitely quicker. Actually tires where fine. Not new, but grip was really good. The problem was the car would'nt save enough fuel whatever i did (Lift and coasted, different boost settings, even setup was fuel minded) I was one lap short on fuel for the last half of the race trying to fix it. This cost me alot of pace and gave me no chance of defending. Boosted full only once on the straight to defend against you (Anders) eventually this little action probably cost me 5th. Anyways was good clean fun, mixing it up. Big thanks to Sabre & Vadim for setup help & congrats to Wilks for the championship!

what I find very unfortunate is that in the broadcast very biased for one side to lose the championship the way it went. I don't understand what you mean, none of us in the broadcast booth was happy at all that the championship was decided like this but shit happens. It is not the broadcaster's task to decide who is at fault in the incidents and we just tried to not rub salt in the wound.

The car with Prost's helmet did get into the points just about anywhere. It just wasn't good enough.
13 races, 12 starts, 11 points scores and zero DNF's. It doesn't get more Prost than that, except for the lack of wins (plural). Where did it go wrong? Many points scores, but usually smaller ones whereas Wilks bagged three wins. I made errors along the way, but he was clearly the better of us.

Congrats to Richard for the champioship, well done in Senna's Lotus!!, and so sorry for Gabriele bad luck this race in his battle for the championship and amazing pace and race for Tim. My Qualy was fine, better than I tought, I only tested the qualy setup on Sunday Morning so P14 was great for me. The start was good, but I missed a shift so several cars passed me so I had to take some risks in T1. A confortable race in P11 saving fuel for the second stint and trying to finish finally a race. Pit stop in lap 36 and then come back to P11 but when I was increasing my pace the engine blow up, I think due to several miss shifts during the race, my fault Congrats to all who finished the race and thanks for let me race with all of you gentlemen. I missed going back to racing Amazing broadcast as always guys Hope to see you in another race
