1978 CHAMP CAR MOD
For this championship we are using the:
A wide variety of chassis are available for full-time drivers (Penske, Lola, McLaren, Lightning, Eagle, Coyote, Vollstedt, Wildcat, Watson and Parnelli), plus several engine suppliers (Offenhauser, SGD, Drake, Cosworth, Foyt and American Motors). Goodyear is the lone tire supplier. Certain full-time slots will reflect the career path of a 1978 driver or car, meaning there will be a progression from one particular car to another; this should also be taken into account before indicating a personal preference (see the Entry List thread).
NOTE: No quick driver or new driver whose performance level is unknown may drive the cars called out in the full-time entry list by a red number. If you are in doubt as to your status, please PM the series admins.
Initial car allocation:
Drivers interested in taking part in the series have to post in the full-time entry list thread when it opens. Doing so implies accepting being assigned whatever car the admins choose to, which will be done based upon driver's regularity in the league, sportsmanship and fair driving as well as achieving the most balanced field possible. A personal preference of car or driver can be indicated, but admins will not be bound by that.
In certain special cases, the admins may consider allowing two drivers to share one full-time drive for the season. In such an arrangement, the participation difference between said drivers can be no greater than six rounds, meaning one driver starts 12 rounds, while the other starts 6 (one driver in a shared full-time arrangement may be allowed to procure a separate drive specifically for the Indy 500; this would not count as one of the shared drive starts). Please PM the admins if you and another driver are interested in such an arrangement.*
Monday, January 11th: Entry list opens @ 20h00 CET
Friday, January 15th: Entry list closes @ 20h00 CET
Saturday, January 16th: Entry list posted
Losing your car/Car switching during the season:
- Any full-time driver missing 2 races in a row without comment or missing 4 in total (Regardless of whether their presence or absence is announced) will result in said drive being vacated.
- If a shared full-time drive exceeds the absence limit during the season, both drivers lose the car. If one of the drivers leaves a shared drive during the season, the remaining driver is expected to take over as the lone driver. The absences accumulated for said drive to that point still count.
- Vacated cars shall be offered for 24 hours and anyone can ask for them. After the 24 hour period, the cars will be assigned by the following preference order:
1st - To the asking fulltime drivers with the most starts
2nd- To the non-fulltime drivers with the most starts
Ties on number of starts in each rank are decided in favour of the driver who asked first. Asking for multiple cars is allowed (please indicate a preference if you do so). Cars that are not picked up by anyone after the 24 hour period, shall automatically become available on a first come first served basis.*
- Drivers can only switch cars once during a season.*
- If a full-time drive is vacated once a race thread is up, the admins will offer the car as a one-off for said race, then reallocate it as a full-time drive after the race has been completed.
One-Offs:
- Every full time time driver must announce their presence/absence when a race thread is posted. Drivers who haven't announced their presence 48 hours before the start of official qualifying will have their cars made available as one-offs.
- If a driver declares their absence, their car shall be made available as a one-off.
- A driver may drive up to 4 different cars during a season as a one off driver*
- Once a driver has chosen a one-off car for an event, they cannot switch should another car become available for said event.
- Full-time drivers cannot jump in an available one-off car without forfeiting their full-time drive.
- One-off drives cannot be reserved in absentia (i.e. a member requesting a car for someone else, who then confirms later).
*Admins reserve the right to deny a car to a driver if they are deemed too quick for it.
CHAMPIONSHIP RULES AND POINTS
The championship will be run over 18 rounds.
There are only points for ranks in races, no bonus points. The point system is based on mileage, the winner receiving 2 points a mile.
Points scored by drivers sharing a ride are split according to the percentage of the race driven. Drivers who start a race in one car are allowed to score points in another as a relief driver.

*Point distribution specific to round 17.
Both finishers and non-finishers can score points. All rounds count toward the championship total.
There will be one drivers’ championship, as well as the informal "Triple Crown" (a driver winning all three 500 mile races will be declared Triple Crown Champion).
QUALIFYING
Qualifying for most events will consist of a two-lap shootout for each driver. This 5-minute session will be a "private" one, which means each driver will be alone on the track although everybody will run simultaneously. Each driver will be allowed a maximum of four laps : one warming up lap, two qualifying laps, and the slowing down lap. Any driver covering more than four laps will have his qualifying time disallowed and will be put at the end of the qualifying order. The Indianapolis 500 grid will be determined by the traditional 4-lap Pole Day on a date prior to the actual race weekend. Special qualifying instructions for select races will be disseminated two weeks prior to said races.
EVENT SCHEDULE
All meetings will be held on Sunday nights (all times given as CET - Paris Time)
The most common event schedule is show below:
19:00 | Free practice (45 minutes) |
19:45 | Qualifying Shoot-out (private session, 5 minutes, 2 flying laps) |
19:50 | Drivers' briefing and warm-up |
20:00 | Race start |
RACE FUEL LIMITS
Fuel limit information for each race will be indicated in the corresponding race thread.
RACE START PROCEDURE
The start will be given flying behind the game-controlled Safety Car.
When the green flag is given, overtaking is allowed in any part of the race track, even before the start/finish line. This also applies for restarts.
FULL COURSE YELLOW PROCEDURE
- When a yellow flag is thrown, you can race till the start/finish line (Race to the flag). The order behind the safety car will be the same as the drivers crossed the line for the first time after the caution was issued.
- When the Safety Car is out, you must keep a normal pace until you reach the line of cars behind the SC. Otherwise you'll get a penalty. Same when you exit the pitlane under yellow, you have to be quick enough to rejoin the SC.
- The pits are open all the time.
- On restarts, all cars must be no more than two car lengths apart, and single file. You don't have to be right behind the car in front, staggered formation is allowed for safety reasons, but respect always the distance (Never side by side). Failure to observe this rule during the race could result in a post-race penalty.
- When the Yellow comes out, a Yellow Flag will flash on your screen. That flag will continue to flash until you have TAKEN the yellow. Once you have taken the yellow flag, it will stop flashing and will be a Solid Flag. So if you are in the middle of turns 3&4 when the Caution is called and cross the start finish line, if the flag on your screen is still flashing, then you need to continue on around the track before YOU are actually under yellow. Which also means you get to pass the Safety Car.
- /!\ The leader must be careful to not overtake the Safety Car when the latter is exiting the pitlane. /!\
A training server running on the next scheduled track will be online permanently. Please avoid cars which are not assigned to you on the server.

BEHAVIOUR ON TRACK
- As for all ISO races, it is required you use your real name both in-game and on the forum. Thank you.
- Chatting during the race is strictly forbidden, talking during a qualifying session is only permitted for technical difficulties, but please whisper to the admin in charge to limit the disturbance towards other drivers. The code to add before your message when using whisper chat in the AMS is the following:
/w adminname Message
Example:/w Alberto Ibanez I have a problem.
- Respect the red condition at the end of the pitlane.
- Respect all pit exit/entry procedures as listed in the race thread.
- Drive Through : If a driver has to do a drive through, even if there is no pit lane speed limit, he has to drive through the pitlane at 100km/h max (60mph). If he doesn't respect this, he will get a 30s penalty at the end of the race.
- If you have a spin on the course, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure the track is sufficiently clear before you rejoin the race.
PROTESTS
A protest form is available in the main forum page (Top navigation bar) should a driver consider that a race incident merits disciplinary or corrective action. Protests have to be logged no later than 72 hours after the race ends.
APPLICATION AND INTERPRETATION OF THE REGULATIONS
The admins alone are qualified to solve any problems raised by the application and the interpretation of the present regulations.
