Alright. Key to this race was definitely track position. So adding some extra downforce in the warmup was important. Still, passing was very difficult when you were behind a fast car, which made me anxious the last stint. I never imagined me being this competitive with the old Eagle, but I must have found something golden setup wise with these cars, because just like at Phoenix with the Mongoose, the car had no vices at all. Getting comfortable in traffic and knowing how to make moves on restarts was what gave me the confidence. On lap 42 I gained I think 9 positions on one restart, was very happy with that! And being able to lead meant I could get ahead of a lot of trouble.
I had the race in hand on lap 170 or so, after some penalty bugs had shafted Czlapinski and a few others, but then a ridiculous accident happened just alongside me on lap 172. When I say "please don't crash" and "be safe", this is exactly what I mean. Those kind of crashes that happens for no reason and disrupt the race are unacceptable IMO.
Anyway, Thiago managed to dive into the pits right away there, and I lost concentration and spun on pit exit, after I had pitted a lap later. Crucial track position lost there. It also took me a while to realise that Thiago would make it on fuel, and since he had come from nowhere, I didn't know how strong he actually was! I then shifted down to 3rd, and really went for it. Still, it was very difficult to get close enough, but he made a small mistake on the exit of 3 and I could sneak up alongside.
Super, super happy with this win, my first in quite a long time. This is why we race.

The cars are closer together in 1974 than they were in 1973, and the slower ones like Mongoose, Atlanta, etc, still have a fair chance to do well in the short and mid speed tracks (Phoenix, Milwaukee, Trenton) where the aero is not so important. They will also probably be competitive at Michigan if they have the Foyt engine (Mongoose, Atlanta) as the wings will be down to minimum there.
Track position is indeed more important, but on 500 milers a bit less because of the different strategies. And with yellow flags regrouping the field and some cars on heavy and others on low fuel loads, overtaking is not as hard as it would seem at first. We will only have one flag to flag race this season and that is Indy (Flag to flag is actually the closest thing to the idiotic pacer lights system they had in effect, which is impossible to replicate in the game), but at that one fuel use will come into play and will prevent you from going all out all the time, so it will be quite open.

Can you elaborate a bit more Raul? Was an accident or wrong penalty triggered by that, or what other reasons do you have to believe it would be better? Well, the first reaction I notice from most of drivers surrounding me was to lift off.. including me.. Although I gain some positions this way, it was allways very tense since I was not sure if drivers in front will suddenly slow down or not.. I lost a lot of energy during this "race to the line" situations.. But as it seems Im the only one having issues with that, Ill complain no more.. My race, sadly, ended when I touched the wall a little bit to hard for the second time.. and car became undrivable.. its a shame, since I was acctualy very fast and able to remain within top10... next time...

I don't see that as a complain at all, thank you for the feedback, you are welcome to give your opinion and we can always learn from more info There will be a patch before Indy where we will collect all experience gained, don't be shy to let us know if you think something is not working as it should. Either we will fix it or at least explain why we chose it to work like that.
